My Goals for 2021!

Hello, everyone and Happy New Year! In this post, I want to share my goals for 2021 with you so you will have an idea of what direction my content is going in, specifically for my blog and Instagram platform. I also have a few personal goals and, of course, writing and reading goals for the year too! I hope my goals inspire you to make your own. If you already have goals planned out for the year, please leave a comment down below. I'd love to hear them.

Now for the goals...

Word of the Year

SERVE

I know a lot of people who have a word of the year each year. I've never had one, so I wanted to change that in 2021. I chose serve because it is one of the first things that came to my mind and because it kind of fits with some of my other goals for the year.

In 2020, I had a chance to step back and look at my life and what I'm doing well and what I need to do better. One of the things I think I need to do better is serving other people. I saw a lot of people in need last year, so I wanted 2021 to be a year where I can take my eyes off of myself and my own priorities and try to help and love on other people—whether that help is through some big project or organization or just simply asking someone how they are doing and genuinely listening to them. I hope I can live up to this word this year and learn a lot from doing these simple, yet heart-changing things.

Writing and Reading Goals

Read 80 books

If you follow me on Goodreads or frequently go through my Instagram stories, you know that my reading goal for 2020 was 80 books. Unfortunately, I only read 70 (which is still a huge accomplishment and 25 more than I read in 2019), but I'm ready to hit 80 this year.

Draft and edit a novel

I have big plans and aspirations for my writing this year. I haven't worked on a big project in almost two years now—I've done blog posts and short stories, which are great, but I'm ready to write a novel. I started brainstorming and outlining a project about a week ago, and I am over-the-moon excited for it! My writing has improved so much since the last novel I wrote, and I look forward to sharing more details soon.

Increase my reading speed and better my comprehension skills

What better way to read more books than to learn to read faster! I’d consider myself a pretty fast reader, but I do find that I often space out while reading, so I don’t always have the best comprehension. I think it’s better to have good comprehension than to read at 1,000 words per minute, but I’d like to improve both my reading speed and comprehension skills this year.

Instagram and Blog Goals

Post on Instagram 4-5 times per week

When I first started my Instagram account, I posted almost every day. Over the course of 2020, my quantity of content shrunk. I want to post more because I enjoy taking the pictures and connecting with new writers (and old writing friends) through my posts. Maybe I post something that encourages them or something they can relate to or something that makes them laugh. I look forward to creating new and exciting content for the gram and meeting new writers through my platform!

Post a new blog post once a week

Along with regular Instagram posts, I want to ramp up my blog posts. A blog post a week has always been my goal since I started my blog in August of 2019, and I’ve been pretty consistent with that posting schedule. I hope to keep it up in 2021.

Set up a domain

Currently, I don’t have a domain set up for my website. A domain basically allows my blog to be found on Google. Right now, all of the people who read my blog come from Instagram. Getting a domain will, hopefully, increase the views on my blog posts and give me another way to connect with new readers and writers who are interested in my content.

Hit 1,000 followers on Instagram

Since I haven’t been posting regularly, my account hasn’t been growing much. I would love to hit 1,000 followers in 2021 (I’m currently at 712). It’s such a big accomplishment to me and one that I’ve been striving for since I started my account.

Spiritual Growth Goals

Read my Bible every day

This was one of my goals in 2020, and I did pretty well, but I know I can do it better this year.

Do one kind thing each day

Since serving is kind of my theme this year, I thought this would be a challenge for me. I haven't done this perfectly so far this year, but I want to continue doing it because I think it's a great idea and a great way to spread some joy. Even something as simple as holding a door open for someone or giving them a compliment can make a huge difference in someone's day, so I would encourage us all to try to make this a habit this year.

That's all for my 2021 goals! I'm sure I will add more as the year progresses, but I think this is a good start. A big thanks to everyone who supported me in 2020. I can't wait to see what 2021 brings. I'm feeling pretty good about this new year.

It's been a pleasure writing for you, and until next time—stay weird and stay writing. - Lexi

If I had been writing half as consistently at your age I would be so much further along than I am. I'm super glad for my own journey but very excited to see where yours takes you!!
